Time…a precious commodity…forgotten

The majority of my career has been in the primary grades, a remarkable journey through young eager eyes, clouded by nothing and restrained by little.  Fear not being an issue, risk unknown…I would start my back to school night with a simple statement to the kindergarten parents sitting in small chairs   all around me..their minds and faces filled with questions pertaining to their child’s success as a learner…“Before we begin I would like you to stop and reflect on this one thought, it may be the most important thing that you take away with you tonight..think of your child, think of his/her accomplishments thus far, think of how they have learned to navigate their surroundings and communicate their wants and needs..now think how incredible it all is when they have only been on this earth for 60 months!!! It is at this point every year that I witness my first annual “Ah Ha” moment!  I think of this more and more and how because of standards being imposed on students and teachers as well as the “business” of teaching we have forgotten the power of time, the “waiting” time every individual; child or adult, needs to develop their minds, their thoughts , their learning styles, their philosophies…

technology,students and equity

Recently, since I have been exploring the world of technology and how it can be used within the schools, I have become concerned once again with the idea of equity for all students.  Many ideas regarding classroom connections through websites, blogs etc….have emerged and I question how we, as educators can make sure no one is left out of the technology loop…

Hello world!

I find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed.. there are so many places to go, blogs to read, journals to peruse. comments to make and so little time.  I am learning to navigate better but still feel a bit inadequate. The idea of having a infinite amount of resources to access and explore boggles my mind.  I have always felt very confident, and consider myself an intelligent, well-versed individual, however, this new world of blogging and wikis intimidates me…at least at this point in time…
